Spoiler space, I guess?
....Which is too bad, because up until half-way or even further, it was a very fun entry into the Pandoran weirdness of Borderlands. But Torgue Tokens are pretty much meh, and the final battles against Badassasaurus Rex and Piston were easily the worst boss fights in Borderlands history (the Destroyer was boring as hell, but at least had Cthulhoid cred going for it). Motor Mama was pretty dire and boring as well (just stand on the other side of the tower and snipe her while her missiles can't get to you?), but I thought the DLC would rally for the final battle, right? Yug.
A big huge arena with no tactics besides just running and shooting, no lanes of fire or cover, nothing to kill for second winds or to reload on ammo (except the Hyperion boss-battle stations, which are both slow and annoying to use), and tedious boss powers -- while all Borderlands bosses are just huge piles of hit points, at least things like the Leviathan or, hell, even poor old Wilhelm, had stuff to do in the battle besides 1) run from boss, 2) turn to snap off fire, 3) run from boss. In the end, it was just most expedient to just walk in and out of the arena under the stupid low-hanging door, snap off some fire, walk back to the vending machines for more ammo, and then snap off a bit more fire. If you're going to build your boss battles like that, why not just have a button you can push to kill Piston in one hit, like what he did to Flyboy in that (relatively entertaining by comparison) fight? It would at least be appropriate to the Campaign of Carnage theme of a hokey TV show.
Plus, the 'lootsplosion'? I mean, that was in character for Torgue, but after the lighshow, what spawned from the lootsplosion? Absolutely nothing. I wandered around the empty, dull floor of the Torgue arena three times looking for the loot tags, and apparently the lootsplosion was just Torgue fucking with you. Badassasaurus himself dropped one (1) Eridium bar and a blue SMG with no elemental powers four levels lower than me, and like $100. Piston dropped nothing. It was like the ultimate fuck-you for playing this expansion after the worst fight in the game's history.
It's really too bad that the DLC cratered so horribly (starting around Motor Mama, and accelerating into worthlessness as it went on). Up until there it was really good. I still like Mr. Torgue himself -- great writing, fun performance. I was thrilled to see Tiny Tina again. Moxxie was almost enjoyable, even. The quest to eliminate raisin oatmeal cookies is fun, and the repeatable bar brawl mission might be their best solo arena design so far. The game critics quest is some of the best writing the series has had so far. In the end the DLC ended up being more enjoyable as a preview video than as a gameplay experience, which is a horrible idea to keep people buying your DLC.
Oh, well. I do like Hammerlock a lot, so I guess I'll see what there is to see in his big hunt. He's like Azeroth's Nessingwary, but with style. Hopefully his continued attempt to exterminate all natural life on Pandora will be more enjoyable than this rubble-strewn wasteland.
EDITED TO ADD: Just realized that the expansion started off by promising that this time the Vault would actually contain loot. But you don't even get into the Vault, let alone get any loot for killing Piston. I really don't mind not getting any loot from a Vault -- that's just Pandoran tradition. But it's an additional level of fuck-you added to the game to bring it up and then not deliver.
